A total of 157,875 visitors were recorded, representing a 12.5% increase from 2025. Average visitor spending reached IDR 8.56 million per person, calculated from one week before the event through the event period.
The Mandalika, October 15, 2026 – An economic impact of IDR 5.2 trillion and a record 157,875 visitors marked the success of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. Held on October 9–11, 2026, the event stimulated tourism activities even before the races began, as domestic and international tourists started arriving in large numbers in The Mandalika and surrounding areas as early as one week before the event.
Visitor numbers increased by approximately 12.5% compared with 2025, which recorded 140,324 visitors, marking the highest attendance since MotoGP™ was first held in The Mandalika in 2022. Its economic impact also increased by approximately 4.8%, from IDR 4.96 trillion in 2025 to IDR 5.2 trillion in 2026.
Acting President Director of ITDC, Ahmad Fajar, stated that these achievements demonstrated the increasingly significant role of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia in driving the tourism economy and creating business opportunities for local communities.
“The benefits of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia were already being felt before the races took place. Domestic and international tourists arrived early, stayed at accommodations, enjoyed local cuisine, used local transportation, visited tourist destinations, and purchased souvenirs. These activities expanded the event’s economic benefits, bringing the total impact to IDR 5.2 trillion,” Ahmad Fajar said.
He explained that the economic impact study was conducted by the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Management (LETMI) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), with research carried out before and throughout the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. The study employed an input-output approach based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS) tables, as well as a Keynesian approach to measure the economic multiplier effect.
“The economic impact study was prepared by LETMI–ITB using an input-output approach based on BPS tables, along with a Keynesian approach to estimate the economic impact of hosting the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia,” he explained.
Ahmad Fajar added that BPS would also release data on the economic impact of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia in the near future. The publication would serve as an independent point of comparison and a means of cross-checking the findings of the LETMI–ITB study, taking into account the alignment of the scope, measurement periods, and methodologies used.
“We also look forward to the upcoming publication by BPS. The data will serve as a point of comparison and a means of validating the LETMI–ITB research findings we are presenting today, allowing the economic benefits of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia to be assessed more comprehensively,” he added.
The LETMI–ITB calculations covered visitor spending on accommodation, food and beverages, local transportation, entertainment and tourism activities, as well as souvenirs. The study assessed how visitor expenditures stimulated various businesses and generated further economic activity.
One of the key findings was that average visitor spending reached IDR 8.56 million per person in 2026, including expenditures by international visitors. This figure covered spending from one week before the event through the event period, capturing the tourism activities of visitors who arrived early to explore The Mandalika and its surrounding destinations.
For comparison, average visitor spending in 2023 was recorded at approximately IDR 3.5 million per person during the event. The difference in the periods covered by the calculations is an important factor when interpreting the two figures.
“One of the study’s findings was an estimated average visitor expenditure of IDR 8.56 million per person in 2026. According to the presentation by LETMI–ITB, this figure was calculated using a weighted approach that accounted for the composition of domestic and international tourists. Estimated direct visitor expenditure reached IDR 1.35 trillion, covering accommodation, food and beverages, local transportation, entertainment and tourism activities, as well as souvenirs,” Ahmad Fajar revealed.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, Troy Warokka, described the growth in visitor numbers as an encouraging achievement, particularly as it was accompanied by improvements in event organization and visitor comfort.
“This year’s visitor growth is very encouraging. The figure of 157,875 surpasses the previous record and demonstrates the growing enthusiasm for the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of all parties involved and serves as motivation to deliver an even better visitor experience,” Troy said.
He emphasized that the visitor figure referred to the number confirmed and released by Dorna, based on detailed data from electronic scans of visitor entries. The count covered the main event as well as afternoon and evening side events within Dorna’s reporting scope.
“The figure we have announced is based on the confirmation released by Dorna. The calculation uses detailed data from electronic scans of visitor entries, covering both the main event and afternoon and evening side events included in its reporting scope. On this basis, we are confident in the accuracy of the published figure,” Troy explained.
Troy also noted that this year’s event was better organized and more orderly than the previous year, as also acknowledged by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir. According to Troy, this recognition was consistent with feedback from visitors regarding improvements in the overall layout of the event areas.
“As Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir stated, this year’s event was much better organized and more orderly than the previous year. Several visitors also praised the improved arrangement of team booths in the paddock area, as well as food stalls and MSME booths. This feedback is an encouragement for the entire organizing team,” Troy said.
He added that the presence of local culinary offerings around the paddock and grandstands further enriched the visitor experience, including for international guests. Visitors could enjoy the races while discovering distinctive regional flavors through dishes offered by local businesses.
“We want the experience in The Mandalika to be a complete one. In addition to enjoying the races, visitors can also savor local flavors around the paddock and grandstands. For international visitors, this is an opportunity to discover regional cuisine firsthand while helping local MSMEs reach a wider market,” he added.
The success of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia marks an important milestone for ITDC in further strengthening The Mandalika as a world-class sport tourism destination. Through continuous improvements in event organization, enhanced destination attractions, and collaboration with various stakeholders, ITDC remains committed to ensuring that the event’s growth is reflected not only in visitor numbers but also in sustainable added value for local communities, MSMEs, and the regional and national economies.
